Up to 60% of all engine wear is caused by dirt particles in the 5 to 20 micron range, smaller than your full flow oil filter can remove. These smaller particles can get into the precision clearances between bearings, rings and other engine parts, causing premature wear and damage. Full flow oil filters remove particles between 25 and 40 microns in size. How Does It Work?

An engine's full flow oil filter allows oil to pass through quickly to keep the engine from starving for oil. By doing so, only the coarsest of the particles of dirt are trapped and filtered out. The Amsoil By-Pass Oil Filter works in conjunction with the vehicle's full flow filter. Situated outside the main line of oil circulation, the Amsoil By-Pass is tapped into the main line to bleed off and thoroughly filter 10% of the oil at a time. Because it is not filtering 100%, it does not obstruct the flow of oil to engine parts. In a 6 quart system, The Amsoil By-Pass Oil Filter will filter all the oil to analytical purity in about 5 minutes at an average speed of 45 mph.

Amsoil By-Pass Oil Filters feature a unique filtering media design and patented filter element design. The high capacity filtration media is a special blend of virgin cellulose and cotton fibers, formed into discs, stacked and compressed. The center tube is all steel, perforated to allow oil flow, and wrapped with a fine mesh screen. The remote and the filters are mounted in an accessible area where servicing is easier. In addition, the remote mount allows the use of larger full flow oil filters that increase sump capacity, extending the oil's service life even longer. The recommended replacement interval for the Amsoil By-Pass Filter is 25000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first, and the recommended Amsoil Full Flow filter change interval is 12500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first, for a gasoline engine. When used on a diesel, change at 12500 miles for the Amsoil By-Pass and 6250 miles for the Amsoil Full Flow Filter, or 6 months, whichever comes first.
