A Littoral Combat Ship is a relatively small surface vessel designed for use in the littoral zone, the area close to the shore. Their unique design makes them ideal for in close combat close to the shore. Most LCS ships are armed with Mk 110 57 mm guns. The design of the LCS gives the
littoral combat ships capabilities of a small assault transport,
having a flight deck, a hanger where 2 SH60 Seahawk helicopters can
be carried. Their small size makes them ideal for launch and
recovery of small boats from their ramp at the stern. |
